The 9-5 Life Sucks
Main Post: The 9-5 Life Sucks
Top Comment: My first week on any new job had me feeling awful, every time. After a while it gets better, I’m hoping it’s the same for you with this one
Everyone that has worked a 9-5 for years, what advice would you give your 21 year old self?
Main Post:
I’m still deciding what I want to do with my life. A lot of people say “just go travelling” or don’t take life too serious when you’re that young. But I’m wondering if anyone can give some real life advice? I don’t want to be working for years and years and regret not travelling etc 😭

The 9-5 life is killing me - anyone else? How do you manage ADHD + work?
Main Post:
As per the title - I just can't do the 9-5 life for much longer.
I much prefer doing things at my own pace, like when I was self-employed, or during the bursts of creativity at uni... I used to do shift work, that was also better. I just find that in my current job (which I will likely lose anyway due to this)... all I want to do is sleep. I just sit at my desk, and stare at that little clock in the bottom right hand corner of the Windows screen, it says 9am, I'll try to do some stuff, lose focus, distract a colleague, look at the clock... 9:12am. I hate it.
At lunch I just walk around the block a few times, thinking about random other shit, thinking "damn, I wish I could just walk to the station over there, get onto a train and get out of here". I'm not depressed - I just struggle so much with my symptoms in this job, and it was the same in other 9-5 jobs. I had that whole initial "honeymoon" period with the stims... that passed, and they have definitely helped, immensely, but still this... awful feeling persists! And it isn't that I despise the job - my colleagues are nice, it's fairly easy work, the money is pretty good, the commute isn't bad.
Gah, having ADHD just sucks.
Anyone else feel the same way? If so, how do you, or did you, deal with it? It is killing me, slowly, it's awful.

It's sounds like this line of work doesn't spark joy or align with your interests. Sometimes just having an interest in money is enough to bridge the motivation gap for a lot of people. But for others there needs to be something else to really get those dopamine cylinders firing. Maybe you'd suit something that's more hands on or activity based.
My parents have a 11 year old, term life insurance to age 95, the monthly rate is now $380 and it’s only for 200k
Main Post:
Please I need advice, It has been paid for the last 11 years, but the monthly just went up to $380, my parents were wrapped up into a term life insurance to age 95, by Primerica. $100k for each parent, one parent being the beneficiary for the other, and my sibling and I being the beneficiary for one parent. I am just learning about all of this, should we just cancel it and cut our losses now? In 4 years it will go up about $500 which means the monthly rate will be about $800, i feel like this is insane. Plus my father will be retiring in less than a year. He is the beneficiary for my mother, but my sibling and I are the beneficiary for him. I feel so confused, and there is so much I still don't understand, but in a couple of days, my brother and I will take over the payments.

Smokers pay less for better life insurance.
Primerica is a scam company, drop them ASAP
School prepares you for the 9-5 life
Main Post:
I never really understood as a kid why school was so long, boring, and started so early and why we needed it. Now, the way I think about it, the school system is structured this way to prepare the students for the 9-5 work week they have to endure as an adult. Dealing with students and teachers you can’t stand would be like dealing with co-workers and managers you can’t stand in the work world, and in both school and work require long projects that need to be done by a certain deadline.

It's not just to prepare kids for a typical future work schedule in society, but it also accommodates the schedules of the parents. In that light the purpose of the schedule is "schools are open during regular work hours to accommodate parents" instead of "schools are trying to brainwash students into working for the man."

Really....I mute this commercial every time I see it. What's dumb is that the "Three P's" are basically the same thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8ldmLkS1AE I feel sorry for the poor senior citizens out there, as this feels like a scam, or totally not worth it. My father was looking into this but opted out and searched for another company.
Top Comment: Every time I see it, I declare that the “3 P’s” are “PENIS, PENIS AND PENIS!”. My wife stopped laughing after the 3rd or 4th time.
